Sommelier Journal

(Nikolaihof Grüner Veltliner Vinothek) Youthful color, with pale-green tinges encompassing a yellow-gold center. The moderate development in the nose is overpowered by remarkably fresh herbaceous notes and aromas of apple, lime, orange, and acacia. The palate is juicy and pure, with a silky texture and never-ending minerality. The length of finish belies the wine’s age. This is a dry wine so complex that it may easily be enjoyed on its own. Nikolaihof skipped the disappointing ’92 vintage and has just released the ’93 Vinothek, also a Grüner Veltliner, which requires at least two hours’ decanting to show itself.
