Aloxe-Corton and Ladoix at Ariana II (Ariana 2, Kilburn, London): Served first up straight from a tube journey across London and without food. Poured cold but quickly came up to cellar temperature in the glass during which it revealed more of itself. The nose initially suggests some brown sugar which with time develops a savoury accompaniment. The earthy tones added to with a couple of drops of HP sauce. On the palate there is a citrussy lift and some hedgerow structure. The wine has quite a lot of suspended sediment but unless poured straight from a cool cellar where it's been upright for a week very hard to avoid this. Love this producer and trying one of this age a real treat.

Ladoix and Aloxe (Ariana II): Very evolved colour, brick and burnt toffee. Shouts out ancient! Hazy in the glass, a lot of suspension. Initially very cold which hid the fruit, but it's still there, remarkably, and whilst this is clearly on the wane this is nonetheless a nice glass, with traces of citrus and sweet tannins, and a slight, fatty, animal character. The capacity of this village wine to age as it has is extraordinary. Very interesting indeed, but you would have to say drink up!!

Some amazing Burgs à trois: Clearly a mature bottle here. The nose melds damson fruit, bruised strawberries and a lovely tertiary forest floor leafiness. Palate is small but perfectly formed, a lovely slightly sweet bacon fatty character emerges with some time. Doesn't fall apart over a couple of hours. Chapeau François.
