Amazingly sound for the time, almost 15 years cellared. On nose is not as deep, but has a very good dose of jammy black fruit, raspberries, chocolate, coffee, a hint of licorice. The palate is another story, while the nose might not be too complex, on mouth it feels silky, with very soft tannins, a very delicate taste of candied fruit, berries, a touch of vanilla. This one is deffinitely well constructed and has aged really well.

Comments basically as 2014 but opened more quickly than the last bottle. Around 2-3 hours after decanting, the wine was drinking well, showing lovely fruit and well integrated tannins. I also got a taste of dark chocolate with the dark fruits. Long. Great with fillet steak. An interesting contrast with our last bottle which took ages to come round. Is this a sudden spurt of maturity or bottle variation? It will be interesting to check the last bottle (before moving on to '07 and '09). This is a wine that always rewards keeping IMO.

Comments basically as 25 Jan 2014. Much too tannic when opened and even 2-3 hours after decanting. This bottle was so woody that we put the wine aside until the next day and opened a simpler Malbec instead. We tried a taste of the Clos later with fillet steak and it handled it pretty well. Good combination of fruit and tannic backbone. Much more approachable after 24h+ in the decanter. Still plenty of tannin but the fruit is really coming through. I think anybody opening this and expecting a typical soft, fruity New World wine will be disappointed unless they open it at least a day before. Other vintages of Clos have been slow to come round but this is the most dramatic example I have encountered. The wine demands food. I'll leave the other bottles for a while.......
