Ruby red. Explosive aromas at opening of cassis, blackberries, plum, brown sugar, baking spices, sweet tobacco. On the palate cherry pie, currant, blackberry, leather. Such a fantastic wine from a rather under the radar family in Napa!
(5/5) - Color (15/15) - Nose (17/20) - Palate (7/10) - Overall - I just prefer a touch more dark fruit in there

Served blind as well, this one was in the Napa cab wheelhouse from start to finish. My guess was around 2012-13 St Helena Cab, as it already seems to be gaining quite a bit of complexity. Nose of sweet blackberry and spice. Entry is full-bodied blackberry, graphite, middle starting to gain some pepper. Still fairly tannic finish but softer than I imagine this one was at release just a little while back.

To me this did not taste like it came from the Napa Valley. this is a very fruit forward wine, and I think the youthfulness of this sort of crushes some of the delicacies that might come out in the mid palate after a few years. Red and black fruit dominated wine. Really just kind of has one focus, but does that one thing extremely well. This was not decanted really much at all, as the focus was for the person who opened it to recork and enjoy later that night. I bet it was doing much better then. The back end has a lot of roasted cedar type tannin, which I think will soften and make this one shine quite a bit more in the years to come. If you have this bottle, I would certainly hold it.
