Off the wine list at the excellent restaurant L’Artusi in New York. This one was earthy, a bit tannic, and would have opened up better with a few more hours of air. I think this one will be better in a few years. Went well with pasta and sides.

A bit acidic and tart at first. 90 minute decant. Wonderful Old World nose. A bit lighter in color. Nice extraction. Classic Brunello structure. I found the Wine average at best. Nothing like my favorite Uccelliera. Wine was a tad out of balance though. First time with this Producer and not enough to make me want to buy more.

Dark red/purple, no sign of aging. Nose of dark cherry, licorice and twigs. Tastes of dark cherries, blackberries, cranberry, licorice and dirt, with hints of orange rind, cinnamon, peppermint candy and clove. Medium body. Lots of grainy tannin, will benefit from a few more years in bottle. Quite promising.

N: A FRAGRANT melding of cherries & vanilla, poss notes of smoke?
P: Med body; LOVELY, almost swtish frt fairly quickly met by somewhat puckerish astringency which slowly, fairly seamlessly continues into & through the quite LONG, very, VERY slightly puckerish, still astringent finish, but with a distinct swtness that I suspect will eventually gain the upper hand vis-a-vis the structure. IMPRESSIVE, but needs LOTS of time (guessing until '21... min), then drinking into the latter half of the 2020s. My EXC-/EXC, with a CHANCE for some level of exceptionality down the line. :) 96 pts Suckling. [Though this vendor is definitely competitive @ $45.95 in wine-searcher's widely varying listings, there is one current source that beats it by $6.]
