  • Pale garnet, clear rim, but not much in the way of browning; the nose initially shows some smoke, forest floor, and sauvage; this transitions to dried red berry fruits with lovely floral notes, hints of mushroom and the forest floor/sous bois continues to develop. A lovely aged pinot nose. The palate has good intensity and the fruit comes in nicely; not much at all in the way of tannin; the finish is cut short by some edgy acidity though with food this is less noticeable. Overall still a really enjoyable bottle. Doesn't seem like much if any decline from my last bottle though the acidity does seem more prominent so I'd probably plan to drink sooner rather than later.

  • This was stellar; a library release from Eyrie, the nose is just pure, aged pinot; blind I would have guessed this to be a good vintage, aged 1er cru Volnay; the nose initially was a little savory, but with air lovely dried cherry and currant, orange peel, black tea, forest floor, hints of spice and dried floral notes. The palate is perfectly balanced, ethereal, and really just what I consider the essence of pinot noir. I am consistently impressed at how well these wines show with age.
