  • Magnificent! Winemaker, Dan Standish used to make the Run Rig. So no surprise his own label wines soar, as they do.

After a full day's decant, there's a praline, malty, liquorice, cigar box, violet waft that's emblazoned with that world-class Barossa ancient-vines, dark cherry, blackberry, cassis fruit. So adeptly handled, it's big, juicy, alive, and not overcooked like many of its inferiors. Svelte, big, beautifully rounded. With near eternal drive and balance.

It gets a Wozza 97 (Vivino 4.6) from me. Drink now or hold and savour for a good 20 years.

As a side note, it's sad to see how the Standish Wines have gone from a big, but just in reach splash purchase to a special occasion only purchase, rising every year. I have been a huge advocate of these wines, but they are becoming an option for collectors and top end restaurants only. 🙁

  • Darker than a black hole. Masses of aroma, yet still avoids being "cooked". A long, long lingering palate of coffee, blackberry and liquorice.

    Classic Standish.

  • Agree 100% with LINDSAYM. Nothing to add. Great review.

  • Classically brilliant Standish, the ducks nuts of Aussie Shiraz for sure. Still quite young but like if Dan’s wines it is just well well balanced, there is an elegance despite the richness of the fruit which makes this so easy to drink. Black fruits, olives, some oak and spice complement nicely, maybe some coffee grounds in the mix as well. Texturally this is next level, just a beautiful wine to drink.

  • steely, blue and black fruits. Black core, clove and licorice spice, full and harmonious all the way through. Good shit wow
