The label says French and US oak, drink 6-8 years. Well 17yrs on, there is a mature looking wine in the glass- brick red, tinged with brown. On the nose there is sweat, leather, cigar box, and pencil shavings, with deep red fruit poking through. The palate is still loaded with fruit at the front, finishing dry and with monster tannins (probably won't ever soften!). Astounding!
