The 2015 Bizot Marsannay Clos du Roy is elegant and flamboyant. It offers a fresh and expressive array of high-toned new oak spices, polished fruits and rose petals. Like any Bizot wines, they tend to age faster than usual due to the lack of sulphuring. Feels 5-8 years older but incredibly fragrant and delicious. Light tannins with good length. Such a luscious expression of Marsannay. Drink now – 2030. (90+/100)

Opened at 1pm for dinner drinking and recorked in the cellar. Ravishing nose on pouring at 8pm, initially a little tannic but with some air this rounded out beautifully. This wine was more delicious and approachable compared to the 2016 I opened last year.

Beautiful aroma of flower, dry flower petal, red fruits, earthy, mushroom, dust. Vibrating tanning and acidity. Palate is deep but not broad. Long finish. Bottle decant overnight. Still lack of power. But as a marsannay it’s a very good bottle.

PNP into Spiegelau glass (“Flower” day): Pale ruby and garnet rims.
Smoky notes dominant - slightly lack of fruits. Some eggwhite-like reduction notes upfront.
Still very tight on nose and palate.
91 points at this showing.

PNP into Zalto Burgundy glass (“Leaf” day): Medium purplish ruby to the eyes.
Extremely concentrated seaweed and tar-like black fruits. Florals and spices on the nose.
Superbly mineral and just incredible level of concentration on the palate. Wow what a long and distinguished finish.
Would have never guessed Marsannay by anyone if tasted blind. This is 94 points to me.
