  • The bouquet shows some development. On the palate dark cherries and raspberries, earth, medium+ acidity, slightly sticky tannin and some minerals. Some length and bitterness in the finish.

  • Second bottle from a half case purchased from the Dutch importer in 2019. Michel Mallard commented (to Allen Meadows) that in 2015 the growing season was easy and delivered healthy, ripe but not roasted fruit, which they selected anyway to make sure that it was perfect. Part whole cluster, 15 months in 50% new barrique, 13% ABV. Decanted for two hours. The quality of the fruit and the impeccable wine making really shine through in the precision and definition of the flavours, the oak is perfectly judged, the fruit on the nose is beautifully clean and layered (peach, raspberry, red cherry, blueberry), there is floral lift and a hint of vanilla; the impeccably balanced palate is fresh, marries concentration and charm, and is supported by firm but paper-fine tannins; resonance and length on the mildly earthy finish are very good. Early maturity, drink now - 2030+.

  • The wine merchant who sold me this wine, suggested that drinking one of my six bottles young, would not be a waste. He was right. Michel Mallard is the technical director at Domaine d’Eugénie, and at his own estate the wine making is impeccable too. Blue and black fruit and a hint of mint on the nose, violets; lovely tension on the palate, marries power and elegance, good concentration of fruit balanced by ripe but firm structural elements; tight but convincing finish with a touch of sweet peach, very good length. Delicious now (decanted), and it will be very interesting to follow over the next ten years. May well gain a point with time.
