  • Loving this. Gorgeous, pale ruby colour. Really pretty on the nose with layers of cherries, underripe raspberries, crushed rocks and just a touch of liquorice. Wonderfully cool, understated and harmonious in the mouth: tannins, minerality and acidity all glide across the palate in unison. I don’t drink a lot of pinot noir, so maybe I’m not the best one to judge, but this is the best PN I have had in ages and for a supermarket purchase it was outstanding.

  • Tour de France blind tasting (Concord, MA): The Cote de Nuits representative in our Tour de France tasting. More robust than the Jean-Marc Morey Beaune 1er Cru Greves, most tasters were able to pick this out blind. The Gevry-Chambertin also held its own better against the Rhone and Bordeaux wines in the tasting, ending up 3rd out of 6 in the group's rank. (I rated it 5th.)

  • By the bottle at Noreetuh in NYC. Decanted for about an hour; defiiitely needed that air and time. Nose is pretty, ripe cherries, slight new oak notes and an earthy funk finish. Palate is more old-world with nice acidity, underripe black cherry and dark plum, spearmint and thyme herbal notes and a nicely tannic finish. Good now but will probably be great in 4 or 5 years.

  • Bought on the Celebrity Edge using up my remaining non-refundable on-board credit. The ship's internet went down and lost my tasting notes. Overall it had beautiful structure with great balance of fruits, floral elements, and minerals. Very elegant. I suspect a few more years will elevate this wine a bit further.

Unfortunately, it also hit on my big issue with Burgundy in general - the price. If it wasn't for using up funny money, I would have had a hard time spending my own cash at $75 a bottle.

  • Sea weed, green strawberries and rosemary. Many layers and nicely structured complexity
