  • Severely tannic, with a deep gravelly mineral drive that plows under any sense of fruit or tenderness. In addition there's a weird oxidative/overripe/port-like element. A conundrum of a wine. If you like to abuse yourself with young Sagrantino maybe you'd enjoy this?

  • Cork crumbled apart upon extraction. Cork was very dry but not saturated. Filtered through a cheese cloth into the decanter. Tons of heavy thick sedament. Poured straight into glass. Very dark red color with no discoloration. Very bright and fresh aromas of cracked pepper, chalk, graphite, black and red currant and very light fresh vanilla bean. Really none of the funk I notes on the '85. Soft acidity on the mid palate showing mainly cranberry and dirty raspberry along with some creaminess. Fairly drying on the finish with still plenty of tannin with pepper and funky fruit, mainly plum. Really amazing how this held up just sitting in my friend's office since release.
