What a pleasure to enjoy. Such a rare gem from Margaret River. A breath of fresh air in the cookie cutter wine industry today. Too many notes to count, but baking spices predominate after an hour

Double decantered around lunchtime; drunk 4-7 hours later. Very nice wine, accessible now, but with years of drinking pleasure ahead. Doesn’t give much on the nose. On the palate is a mid weight Cabernet showing some nice red fruit/berries maybe very faint tobacco. Glad I have a couple more. For me, in this vintage, Xanadu reserve is up there with some of the MR greats. 93-95+

Decanted 3hrs, this looks very young in the glass - a dark ruby crimson with no sign of age. Not much on the nose - just a hint of some spicy red fruit. And to taste, not much there either. Just some clean red fruit and quite formidable tannins. Yes this is clearly well made from top quality fruit but so are a lot of other Aussie cabs. And at >£60 on the table per bottle there are better choices out there for the money - anything by Cullen and Wynns Black Label Cabernet spring to mind. Maybe I caught this on an off day or it's simply in a closed phase but I doubt there's anything wrong with the wine itself as it's screw capped. I know Jancis loved this but I have to admit I'm struggling to see what all the fuss is about. Based on this showing, not a rebuy.

Dark berry nose, iron and graphite, mineral characters, quite vibrant. Smooth, luscious medium bodied palate. Lovely fine tannins.
