Community Tasting Notes (1) Avg Score: 89 points

  • 1 hour decant. This is probably a bit past peak. This producer's ability to balance tannins, acids, etc. still shows. The fruit profile of plum, dark cherry, and blackberry is not very primary now. Gains some weight and length with air, but finish never went beyond medium. Secondary flavors start with tobacco, then iron and stone show up with air, as well, and a faint hint of violet. If blind, I might have guessed a Bordeaux blend. Anyhow, while the Whipping Boy Cabernets seem to hold up well for 10 years past the vintage date, I don't think the same can be said for his other reds. Maybe more like 5 - 7 years for best drinking, when this wine would probably have garnered a 90+ score from me.
