BLIND REDS - Bordeaux varietals (mostly Napa and BDX) - Over/Under $100: Funk-keeee funkalicious front-end funkified fruit (like a BDX that got caught in a bayou). This has fruit like a domestic red but is overpowered by wet tobacco and almost muddy fruit to where I couldn’t figure out the origin. Finishes dry like a $15 Bordeaux, with an earthy smashed plum note lingering.
It wasn’t technically flawed – there was a whole discussion about that amongst the group, but it might as well have been as far as my palate was concerned. When it was revealed that this was a Lake County Cabernet from the Double Diamond family, I simply responded with, “Ah, that makes sense.”

Tasted at an Italian restaurant in Newport Beach by the glass. Good fruit. A bit chalky but nice tannins balance this one out. Blackberries, spicy, a bit of smoke. A very good wine for the price.
