  • Ruby. Striking nose that my wife described as an herb sachet, and that captured it perfectly-thyme, oregano, lavender, licorice, and lord knows what else. With time, rising black cherry as well. Medium bodied. Ripe dark red fruit, the abundant herbs that are previewed in the nose, tart acidity, strong core of minerality, ripe tannins, and a long finish. Not only was this delicious, it effortlessly accompanied a wide range of food that contained spring ingredients such as asparagus, artichoke, peas, and morels. I had this about 5 years ago, and it has only deepened while retaining its freshness and complexity. I was thrilled to find it and drink another bottle. Abbatucci is seriously underrated and produces world class wines.

  • Appearance: Bright and clear, the wine is of medium ruby colour, with fading rims and legs.
Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of red fruit of cranberry and ripe cherries, black fruit of blackberry, herbal notes of Chinese medicine, oak notes of toast, sweet spice of clove, pungent spice of licorice, maturity notes of savoury. The wine is developing.
Palate: Dry with medium acidity, the wine has medium tannin of ripe and well-integrated texture, medium in alcohol, with medium body, with medium (+) flavours of red fruit of raspberry, black fruit of blackberry, herbal notes of Chinese medicine, sweet spice of clove, animal notes of leather. The wine has a medium (+) finish.
Conclusion: Very good quality Corsica with an intense nose showing good complex aromas, with the palate well-structured and robust, having a soft tannin and good concentration in flavours, with an equally nice long length on the finish. It is ready to drink now and can maintain for another 4-6 years.

  • Medium red. A plethora of mixed herbs on the nose. Light to medium weight, yet with real authority and penetration on the palate. Tart black cherry and blackberry fruit atop a flinty base with rising sappiness, and all manner of other savory elements led by thyme and licorice drop, and finished with a piquant citrus note. Like this producer's Faustine but more refined, and with intensity that is turned up several notches. These Abbatucci wines are endlessly fascinating and manage to transport you right to the wilds of Corsica.
