  • From 375ml. Prior bottle was just over 27 months ago and this wine has evolved positively, but perhaps not quite as far as I had thought. Nose is still a good mix of mostly white orchard fruit with a tropical undercurrent. The tropical notes were a bit more evident this time. Medium bodied with white peach upfront and more expressive and deeper tropical notes through the middle. Shows a bit more auslese-style honey now, but hasn't quite developed the density or depth I'd anticipated. Very good acidity and tart tropical notes on the backside through the finish. The wine is clearly starting to open up and show more complexity. But it doesn't quite have the depth or expressiveness to carry it from outstanding to truly sublime. With time, the acidity and fruit should continue to come into balance, but I don't think it will reach the heights that the 2015 will. This wine will continue to evolve positively for quite a number of years, but as I tend to enjoy this style younger, when the acidity is more prevalent, I will probably open my next bottle in Summer 2021.

  • From 375ml. Mix of intense, packed whitefruit on the nose with a strong tropical undercurrent. Medium bodied (7% ABV) and ridiculously young, but had enough bottles that I figured it was worth seeing what I had. Blind, I might have guessed spatlese ** or spatlese GK. There's so much acidity and the wine is so tight at this stage, it needs to warm before it's identifiable as auslese. White orchard fruit upfront with intense peach the most noticeable. Mixes in much more tart and acidity driven notes. Mid-body feels really tight, especially on the cooler side. Complexity here is impressive, but only beginning to show it's potential. Richer, more tropical notes start to peek through towards the back. No honey notes at this stage at all. Overall, this wine has a tremendous amount going for it: rich expressive fruit, tart fruit, acidity and a structure that suggests considerable future potential. Probably at least 5 years away from even being truly approachable, this is wine worth being patient with.

  • A bit of reduction on the nose. Lots of energy and lift, bright, mineral, almost saline. Great concentration of fruit. Very long. 93-94+
