Community Tasting Notes (3) Avg Score: 81.7 points

  • First glass: Color is a bold gold, looks rich. Nose is musty, but also a bit citrusy. Taste: old oaky apple dominates, soft buttery texture. Tart green apple finish. Seems so disjointed, nothing matches. I hope this improves.
Day 2: Mustiness has faded, smells lemony with touch of butter, apple and nectarine flavors, tart green apple finish. A yeasty, oaky streak throughout. Going back for a second glass... same result, really starting to get into the complexity of this with a variety of cheeses and enjoying this. I'll rate this as a low good of 82 based on interesting complexity from start to finish, but clearly over the hill. This was probably very good at some time.
Hope Estate notes: http://www.hopeestate.com.au Ten different lots made differently, barrel fermented, 100% French oak, Malolactic fermentation on lees. Cellar up to 5 yrs. OK, that explains it. This bottle probably suffers from improper storage.

  • Yellow/straw in color. Aroma of pear, citrus and faint alcohol. Flavor is smooth and creamy, hints of sour Granny Smith apples. Buttery, medium mouthfeel. Fairly tart. Paired fairly well with the grilled pork loin chops and vegetables.
