  • RFU Annual Meeting (Hansa Theater and Delta Bistro, Hamburg): This one is a little too light after all this great stuff before, crispy, but lacking the tension most of the other wines of tonight have shown, ** at best! Around 85- 86

  • 12,5% alcohol.

Very pale, whitish-yellow color. Rich and aromatic, yet surprisingly green-toned nose with somewhat wild and ethereal aromas of sweet apples, some peachy character, a little bit of steely minerality, a hint of apple blossom and a touch of saline sea breeze. The wine is light-bodied, delicate and very pure-fruited on the palate with precise flavors of steely minerality, tart green apples, some citrus fruits, a little bit of sweeter ripe apple character and a hint of saline tang. High acidity. The finish is crisp and lively with very long and focused flavors of steely minerality, green apples, some waxy and slightly spicy wild character and a slightest lactic touch of sourmilk - perhaps the wine has undergone MLF and there's a hint of lactic acid here?

A wonderfully pure, ethereal and still sufficiently complex and nuanced Riesling that is more about minerality and precision than about ripeness and oomph. Although the wine is obviously ripe, the fruit isn't particularly sweet and the wine doesn't come across weighty at all. In our tasting of 12 Austrian and German top Rieslings from 2015, this wine came across as bit underwhelming, but not least bit less impressive. Wonderfully refreshing, gastronomic style. Although this will never be a big (i.e. voluminous) wine, i can imagine it will gain some weight in a cellar over the following 4-6 years, perhaps even more. Nice. Priced according to its quality at 30€.
