The Rioja DOCa needs to be very careful, as they are badly watering down their standards when they allow dross like this to carry the Rioja name. Particularly a Gran Reserva label.
This is new world pizza wine. Nothing about it reminds me of Rioja, and were this the first bottle of Rioja I ever tried, there would be no second.

Spanish Gran Reserva from Rioja with 85% Tempranillo and 15% Graciano. Black cherry, oak, and pepper. Nice wine with food.

This has aged beautifully. The tobacco notes dominate, but a the fruit is not yet lost and still provides a nice lift to the aging vino.

Had with pasta and red sauce. Good tannins were smooth but very present
