  • The wine was dark garnet in colour and threw some sediment. It offered dark fruit reduction, blackberry, plum, spices, black pepper, cinnamon, liquorice and earthy aromas on the nose. On the palate the wine showed sweet dark fruit reduction, some chocolate, shredded black pepper, cinnamon, liquorice, tobacco and earth, with medium-level acidity, mostly integrated medium to medium-plus tannin, a smooth mouthfeel and good length. Good not great.

  • I was very keen on tasting this five star John Platter wine. Dark, dark red in the glass with a lighter rim. Rich nose of a basket of black fruits, meat, dark chocalate, spices and bacon-chips. A lovely smell. The palate is medium to full bodied, with some fresh and spicy blackfruits, toasty vanilla, chocalate and mokka/coffee on the medium finish. Good job by Raka and a very decent price at 15€ / 18$!!

  • The surprsie packet of the 5 star Platter line up.I have earlier vintages of this wine and this smells very similar.Good deep red, with typical Raka nose of chocolate, rich dark fruit and spice.Nice balance and acidity but lacks length and is not in the same class as the Boekenhoutskloof,or indeed the Neil Ellis.Very good
