Strangely disappointing - all the right notes are present and correct but it’s smaller scaled, far less intense than I’d expect. Ripe black fruit, some beef stock and olive, white pepper, ashy- but like somebody’s turned the volume down. Unsatisfying.

A trio of Friday Syrahs: In my mind there's two types of SA Syrah - the slightly fleshy, oaky, boozy type that are well put together but don't really thrill, and the edgy, fun, engaging kind that make you stop and go - yeah. This is 75% the latter and 25% the former - NEARLY exciting, NEARLY gripping but...doesn't quite get over the hump.

Minimalist Wine Tasting: First off, it was a delight how different this wine was from the Stars in the Dark, despite being vinified similarly. At first, it was very savory, in a different way from Stars, but with more fruit and aromatics that made you want to sit there and just sniff it. With time, it reminded me more of really great Syrah's from (cool climate) Australia or Spain. Lots of fruit, lots of peppercorn, even a little citrus. The aromatics are still otherworldly. But for me, it doesn't hit those highs of Stars in the Dark. However, I think a lot of people would prefer this, (and did at both the tasting and later in the evening). This would be WOTN at many a tasting, but unfortunately it went against a Wine of the Year contender with Stars in the Dark

Very brambly. Nice but not exceptional. Better after 2 days open and out
