Opened up to swirl and sip, the nose was of black cherry with a slight earthiness. Poured into a decanter to serve with dinner. On the menu, filet mignon with black truffle, lobster, baked potato and green beans. After 1.5 hour decant, it was like blackberry pie, fine leather, with a faint vanilla chaser. The tannins are smooth, chewy and silky, leading to a medium finish. The finish lingers a little, but it is a good thing. In my opinion, this wine is at its peak and drink now. It may go a little bit longer. This was a rare find that we got from the winery, but tonight is a special occasion. Cheers!

This wine continues to improve with bottle age. Alcohol dominates the nose with fresh blackberry and plum. The palate follows thru and adds black cherry. The fruit is very fresh and almost sweet, without residual sugar. The alcohol is well integrated on the palate. There is high acidity and medium tannins. The finish is medium+ in length and very fruity. The texture is uber smooth. A fairly balanced approach that could continue to improve with another 3-4 years in the bottle. The last five Justin vintages (or so) have done a decent job of threading the needle between a New World taste, with an Old World sensibility. Still more fruit forward than I would prefer and the fruit over-powers any attempt at complexity.

Like many Justin wines, big and bold. Popped and decanted ~30 min before climbing in. Deep in color. Raspberry, strawberry, mushroom, vanilla notes. This is in prime drinking window and will probably remain there for next 5 years or so.
I have found that I like Justin wines with some bottle age, especially the higher end bottlings and this is no exception. The "grapey" qualities seem to become less pronounced with a few years in the bottle.

Reminds me of the original Justin cab I had back in the 1990s. I'm wondering if they've been diluting their regular line keeping the reserve line as the original. Great drinking wine now but could sit another year or two.
