  • Classic WW rocks terroir clearly evident it’s not over the top in that department. Restrained fruit with blackberry, dried cherry, cranberry that of course came to the fore with air over time. Very good, approaching excellent, but not the best example of this wine. 4-

Like almost every WA state 2015 syrah this was solid, true to style and terroir, and balanced even though the reputation for 2015 has taken some hits as it was the hottest vintage on record. But it’s also true that almost every 2015 syrah has not been up to the level of the best of those wines as they have lacked just a little something that the best wines have - lacking in the intensity, charm, interest department just a notch below what they are capable of.

  • 略失望。第一次喝rock Syrah。微苦,重的滋味,没有什么传说中的funk。最为Syrah,尚可。

  • Opened this during an evening of pouring American wines for our French friends to convince them there is some good stuff outside of Europe too. Not an easy task but this wine sealed the deal. They could not believe it was a U.S. wine, so N Rhone-like (not sure I agree, but they aren’t familiar with WA wines).
But it was excellent and drinking so well right now. Some funk which I love, but it mellows out with time open. Decanted about one hour before drinking and then consumer over the next 90 min.
Still has plenty of bright crunchy fruit, but also layers and layers of flavor. Savory, meaty, olives, tar, such an intellectual and delicious wine.

Note: I saved a small pour to try on day 2. It was good but I was suffering from the amount consumed the day before so hard to say too much except it held up and could handle a really long decant or multiple days open

  • Opened this for my August bottle in the WA Wine Report 2021 Washington Syrah Challenge. Absolutely delicious wine from the Rocks. It was almost overly funky when first sampled, but mellowed out with air time. The last taste I had was a couple days later, and the wine was singing by then! Black fruit, tar, seaweed, olive, and a bit of smoked meat. Really wish I had more...drink now - 2030.

  • This wine was full of energy, with a strong and tart attack. The blackberry, cherry, and plum fruit flavors were demonstrative. Supporting them were tastes of wet rock and a bit of green vegetable - think green pepper and asparagus. If that concerns anyone, the fresh and wild fruit flavors were clearly leading the way. The finish had some nice pepper to add a bit of balance against the powerful, long lasting attack.

Trey and his team used a bit of new oak, which helped support the tannic structure. But if you're someone that shies away from wines that are too heavily oaked, this should be right up your alley.
