Slightly pink tinge to the appearance. Smoky, floral, and a slight toffee edge to the nose, becoming increasingly sweet and perfumed. The real joy of this wine is in the mouth though – holy crap, what an explosion on the palate! – sweetness, savour, weight of fruit. So creamy and yet so bitter on the finish. What an incredible aftertaste – huge length. AK thinks it will be even nicer in five years’ time.

Germany Expert Series: Weissburgunder & Grauburgunder with Anne Krebiehl MW (Zoom!): Back to the Kaiserstuhl, as for wine #1, but from a higher altitude site. Spontaneously fermented, some whole bunch, matured on gross lees.
