2015 Meyer-Fonné Wineck-Schlossberg Riesling was generous and approaching early maturity. The mature Alsatian Riesling was clear and pale gold in colour with traces of sediments. Aromas of bruised red apples, honey and apricot were followed by intriguing rancio characters of walnut and burnt butter.
On the palate, it was off-dry and verging full-bodied, supported by a high level of integrated acidity. The unusually rich texture came hand in hand with the ripe fruit notes. Flavours of pineapple, candied lemon and dried flowers morphed into cream and earl grey in a long, mineral-driven finish. It paired surprisingly well with Comté cheese. The 13.5% alcohol was consistent with its mid-palate weight. The empty bottle weighed 13.5%.
The vines are cultivated on a steep, south-facing slope composed of mica and decomposed granite. The wine is raised in large, old, oak foudres on fine lees. The wine is unfined, and yeast autolysis enhances the textural fullness of the wine.

Excellent, though perhaps a bit more mature than I would have thought. Petrol, ripe apple, full body (13.5 abv).
