Open and decant for 2 hours. Spicy nose of black plums, violet, graphite and smoky oak. Nose of a cooler vintage, like a cooler climate Shiraz from Victoria or Coonawarra. The palate shows more fruit ripeness and sweetness with strong peppery notes from entry to finish. Mid-palate is spicy and thick, overall tight structure and somewhat closed finish. Expected for such a young wine. Some lifted acidity and bitter tannins at the end of the finish. Need a few years to open up and harmonized.
Compared to the 2016 The Wark Family Stonewall Shiraz which could turn out to be more complex but darker, this will be easier for most palate to enjoy.
