  • Terroir-istes International - France, Loire Cabernet Franc & a Pinot Noir (The Fat Butcher, Stellenbosch): (Tasted Blind): A medium+ garnet. Initially closed on the nose (it was served quite cold), it slowly opens to reveal undergrowth, crushed rocks, fresh earth and petrichor. The palate is dry and chalky texture on entry yet starts to climb with a high acid injection and gritty, firm tannins. Some cooked notes abound, and the wine closes with notes of meat stock. The tannins were quite hard work and mineral-edged, while the finish was medium and a little unbalanced.

  • This is a very nice Bourgueil that is drinking nicely now. I can't comment on how this wine compared to the past as this is my first bottle consumed.

This wine has a solid and balanced classic Cab Franc nose of green pepper/vegetables, black pepper, red fruit and a touch of smoke. The wine has good acidity, mineral and flavors to match the nose along with modest but smooth tannins and good finish. Overall there is a lot going on in this food-friendly wine. If you like the flavor profile of Cab Franc than you should enjoy this wine - if you don't (like my wife) you really wont like this wine.

  • No formal notes, but this was quite lovely stuff. Still quite primary, but far more enjoyable than it was 7 years ago when I had my first bottle. Plenty of green peppers dominate the nose, but it used to be almost at an astringent level. These days it's fairly soft and pleasing, with some sweet fruit mixed in. There's a nice hint of fresh spearmint leafs in there too. Similar palate, which is moderately acidic and still quite tannic, though they're nice fine grained tannins. Smooth and balanced throughout, offering nice layers. Definitely not peaked yet, but plenty enjoyable today. I'd love to try it again in 10 years, where I think it'll be better, but this was my last bottle. 90-91

  • Really interesting flavor profile. Light to medium weight. The predominate note is spicebox, specifically cinnamon. We had with a Moroccan roasted chicken and veg & couscous. Just delicious. Great food wine. Would also be good choice for traditional Thanksgiving fare.
