Giant Wine Sale & Tasting Cellar on Greene, Columbia, SC 5/3/2014 (Cellar on Greene, Columbia, SC): Another tasty little surprise from New York State. A very quick read of the label made me think I was tasting Pinot Noir. But, immediately my palate asked me to look see if it was Gamay Noir, especially as the color is almost perfect for Gamay. Turns out this is a blend of Cabernet Frank and Merlot. The taste definitely shows a viscosity and mouth feel a little too heavy for almost any Pinot or Gamay. This is really pretty tasty. The fruit is quick hitting and approachable raspberry and cherry that has some unique, hard to describe, New York State terroir flavors with lots of earthy minerality. Solid, lingering finish as much fruit as non fruit.

A blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Nice delicate almost earthy nose with aromas of cherry and raspberry. A soft gentle style, full of cherry fruit and spices. The acidity is gentle, but enough to cleanse the palate with a nice clove flavour in the finish. Very nice. Went very well with Monkfish tails and Bone Marrow. Good value.

Dr. Frank's Salmon Run Petit Noir bottled in 2006. Light bodied fruity blend of gamay, merlot and cabernet sauvignon. Flavors of plum and spices. Great value. Room for improvement!

tasted like cabernet - full bodied, strong oak tones, smooth.
