A blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, and 10% Syrah aged in concrete vats and casks, the fragrant, medium-high to highly aromatic nose leads with savoury meaty notes, mingling with spices, garrigue, kirsch, dark berry, black cherry, and blackberry aromas. Impressively concentrated on the medium-full to full-bodied palate, it has savoury, earthy, and green herb flavours surrounding a dark berry, garrigue, and kirsch flavoured core. There's a touch of warmth on the mid-palate, but not out balance, along with fresh, juicy acidity, and smooth, refined, lightly chalky tannins. Finishes savoury with stony minerals on the long finish.
Another impressive bottle of this wine; nice aromatics, bold, chewy cherry fruit, with hints of leather and violets; wet stone and minerals then a long, warm finish.

Initially a little astringent, but opened up nicely after an hour or so. Somewhat savory up front then crushed berries, wet stone, violets and plenty of other classic Rhône characteristics on the mid palate and a long, warm and chewy finish. Great value at the price.

Yet another wine that makes me believe Southern Rhone reds are prime examples of wines which go through dumb phases. This looks even more closed down compared to my last bottle tasted 17 months ago.
No lack of power, but as aromatics are subdued, it’s less harmonic and enjoyable as before, the structure dominates at the moment. Hints remain of the extravagant liveliness 2016 Rhones were famous for, but it’s youth is over and maturity is not here yet – it’s somehow in the middle, lacking aromatics. That makes alcohol and tannins more prominent, less integrated. It’s still good, but I think better days are ahead of it, and probably showed it’s best in 2017-2018. Hold until late 2021 or so.

I don't know what made me think bacon initially. Prickly deep dark fruit. Very nice with a vegetarian shepards pie.
