Intense but not overwhelming nose of bitter herbs, menthol, beef broth, charcoal, and damp earth. Palate is fresh and inviting, though the acidity is a notch lower in this vintage. Palate offers herbs de provence, earth, and not much in the way of fruit at this age. Finish is short. Very solid wine but unlikely to improve from here, bottle seems well stored.

Val Jolie: Black forest berry frt w/soft earth; rich earthy but swt frty notes w/licorice hints, almost coffee notes too--long fin, rich dark frty red***A rich dark frty red, “grounded” in earth, basic, good quality, full of terroir.
