  • One-hour decant through a screened and aerating funnel. Lovely black fruit aromas came forth during decant. Wine was clear; garnet from bowl to rim with no bricking. After resting, nose of black fruit, cocoa and earth. In the mouth: deep fruit with tannins on the way out and a touch of bitterness on the medium-long finish. This wine seemed better than when I had it on 8-26-2020 hence the higher score. But for the bitterness in the finish, I would have rated it even higher.

  • This wine surprised me. It hasn't gotten great marks on here, but at the time I'm drinking it this wine is fantastic. Dark berry, blackberry, marionberry, very vegetal and earthy. Chocolate covered blackberry/blueberry aromas. Some spice on the back end of the palate. The tannins are a little grippy but fairly well resolved. Acidity is a little lower than i want but still medium. Solid buy for $50. Maybe slightly over priced

  • Better than expected. Opened two hours before consumption. Balanced and mature. Some sediments presents. Ready to enjoy now and for the next three years. Good QPR

  • My note of 6-16-2020 expressed a little disappointment with this wine from what I thought I would get based on critics’ descriptions. As with another wine last week, I found myself pleasantly surprised with this revisit. One-hour decant. Garnet, no bricking; clear. Again black fruit and greenery in the nose, but fresher and with a hint of oyster shell towards the end. In the mouth, wine had good structure; fresher than last bottle. Blackberries, herbs and chocolate but no raisins and NOT flabby! This bottle was wonderful and could have aged for many many years. I am hopeful my first bottle had simply been exposed to some untoward heat somewhere along the way and that my other bottles will be like this one.

  • My favorite restaurant reopened after a 3-month hiatus imposed by our dictator pro tem! One-hour decant. Wine was clear, deep crimson bowl, slight lightening towards the rim, but no amber. During decant, deep blackberry jam came forth. After resting, nose was more subdued but pleasant: blackberries, cocoa and a bit of herb (tarragon?). In the mouth, the wine was a little flabby; fruit was quite ripe, almost too much so. Not nearly enough acid to balance the fruit. I have read comparisons of this wine to Opus One. Frankly, I did not sense that at all given the lack of structure here. For the same reason, I do not believe the wine is a good candidate for a decade or two of cellaring. Pleasant enough wine but not worth what I paid for it. There are plenty of California Cabs or crus bourgeois available at half the price that would easily outperform this wine.
