Had at dinner so didn’t take notes but remember it being lighter in body with only 12.5% alcohol, high toned and high acid. Red fruits, minerality, and a touch of brined olives. It wasn’t a powerful Syrah but very tasty with some silky tannins on the finish. It smelled and tasted younger than expected for a 96.

One of the weirdest bottles of wine I've ever had. When I opened it, the smell of cork filled the room. It was the corkiest smell in world history. If they open a cork museum, this would be an exhibit school children would stand around, wrinkling their tiny noses and checking off "cork" in their smell book. It did not blow off. Hours later, the smell is still knee-buckling. But the taste? It's fine! It tastes like a 27-year-old Cornas. No idea how to score this or if I'll even finish the bottle, as I sort of have to hold my nose with each sip.

New Year’s Eve red at the Morris, somm’s recommendation Clear bright ruby First impression: chambolle w. Duck liver on the nose, touch of black pepper Roses++ On the palate, strawberries and blackberries, wet stone minerality, good acidity
Olives when u try to find other things apart from the floral notes
We’re debating how to call this one out in blind, probably the animal blood and olives !
Mushrooms 1h or so in - and finished the bottle too quickly lol!

Decanted off sediment. Now 6h after decant. Shy aromas of blackberries, herbs and earth. Palate is better w bright blackberries mixed w earth, bark, roasted game meats, and dark bittersweet chocolate. Excellent acids on a full body. Still youthful and closed. Nice long finish.
