  • Nose is initially very reductive, but much of this (not all) quickly blows off to reveal Asian pears, Macintosh apples, kerosene-laced mangoes, buttered popcorn, and green bananas. The banana note is even more prominent on the palate: morphs from plantain to banana creme pie and back, with added doses of salted butter, yellow French’s mustard, lemon curd, pineapple chunks, underripe green pears, lemon popsicle, honestly pretty messed up. Brisk acidity as expected, with a sappy body and a long lemony finish. Elements are delicious but things don’t really cohere. Winemaking features little typicity. Perhaps the issue is that typicity is going to elude this grape in Cali. Or maybe the former is subordinated to the latter.
