It seems as though I’ve talked a lot about the wonderful and affordable wines coming from Spain, this time I’ve discovered a truly remarkable wine that comes from the Paso Robles district in California, and is also truly remarkable.
One thing I must acknowledge is the issue of price disparity from most of my Spanish reviews. I’ve said that Spain brings wine buyers many exceptional wines at very affordable prices, but what is such a strikingly different comparison with those previous reviews is that they are much simpler wines, what I have today is a wine of much greater depth and complexity, and that any true comparison of a similar wine from Spain would require the same expenditure.
100% Garnacha, coming from the MAHA Estate and Luna Matta vineyards of Villa Creek. A wine that first presents itself with brilliant aromas of big fruit, then following that entrance as a big lush and bold wine with vibrant blue/black fruit with just a hint of dryness of the finish; much in the same way Spanish wines would present themselves, perhaps a tilt towards more fruit than Spanish wines. The tannins are soft and help to create a smooth but spice-filled finish that lingers and coats your palate.
I was totally blown away by this wine, nothing about it says timid or restrained, just pure enjoyment.
Should 2016 not be available, 2017 may be out there, but act quickly if you do find it, with just over 300 cases made, it won’t last.
Cheers

Savory, earthy undertones of Grenache. A long finish. Beautiful wine!

A Great Garnacha, and It's Not From Spain!

Very drinkable. Good notes of black cherries. Could definitely hold for another year or three.
