First bottle from a three bottle lot purchased at the estate in 2017. A characteristic Silberlack, but this bottle does feel a bit low on definition and energy. Mature, waxy, not a huge amount of fruit expression, quite short and light on the finish. Retaste. No score for the moment.

This wine shows what you can expect from a Riesling of the region: fine notes of citric fruit, notes of petrol, a dry and fresh wine. This is not the best Riesling I have had, but it is a really good example. Schloss Johannisberg pretends being the oldest producer of Riesling. They have been in existence for several centuries, they know how to make good Riesling - but today, there are several producers that make even better Riesling than they do. TBM 90 points.
Medium gold colour. Medium (+) and developing nose with peach, apricot, yellow plum, honey melon, acacia, bread dough, candied lemon and autumn leaves. Medium (+) taste of green apples, lemon, autumn leaves and roasted hazelnuts. Long and dry finish. High acidity. Medium body. A very good Riesling GG with good complexity. Part of my WSET3 exam prep. Drink now or over the next five to ten years. Goes well with fish or shellfish.
