Ninth bottle from a full case purchased at the estate in 2008. Rich yellow colour with golden reflections. Full maturity now, rich and spicy character, the definition is starting to fade a bit, full-bodied and mouthfilling, but (if served relatively cool) it is livelier than its low acidity and high ABV (14%) would suggest, with lovely grapefruit bitters, and good to very good length. Drink up if you have any. No immediate rush though - it holds up well on the second day.

After a slightly tired bottle in January 2017, this is once again on fine form. It is really wonderful to behold how this low-acid, high alcohol (14% ABV is a lot for a dry Riesling from the Rheingau) is retaining its shape, inimitable Johannisberg fruit and floral expression after more than 12 years. The hint of back-end heat is always there, but it appears that the balance is much better than the vital statistics would suggest. It looks like the Gault Millau Weinguide Deutschland 2008 got this one right, when they put it in their top three for the vintage, on a par with Keller's Morstein and just after Dönnhoff's Hermannshöhle.

A German Wine Tasting-cum-Lunch (Restaurant De Nederlanden *, Vreeland, NL): By far the biggest of the ten vintages tasted today with its 14% ABV, with a tropical note to the fruit, slightly alcoholic, complex and rich but not very elegant, impressive but hardly the epitome of finesse, quite untypical for a Silberlack, but very good in its own way.

German wine tasting followed by a Lunch (@ de Nederlanden): Beautiful bouquet with white fruits and minerals. On the palate elegance, beautiful acidity, minerals and white fruits. Well balanced, mouth filling and a good length.

Identical to my previous note. At peak, absolutely no reason to wait. Classic Rheingau, pity about the back-end heat.
