  • WSET Level 2 - Day 1 (Pialligo Estate, Canberra, ACT, Australia): Clear pale pink with tears.

Clean youthful nose with a medium(-) intensity. There is a distinct aroma of strawberry (almost like the strawberry cream lollies), and a subtle lime note.

The wine is dry with medium acidity, medium alcohol, and medium body. The low level tannins are soft and do not hold. The flavours have a medium intensity and follow the nose with notes of strawberry and lime zest. There is a white pepper character that was not detected on the nose. The finish has a medium length.

This is a good quality wine. While the aromas are quite restrained, the flavours are reasonably concentrated and have a great balance with the acidity and a reasonable balance with the alcohol. The heat from the alcohol builds on the finish. The soft tannins fade quickly and seem to be dominated by the acidity in a refreshing manner. The wine is simple, only showing primary characteristics. The finish has a good length.

This wine drinks well now, and should be consumed before the next vintage.
