  • The best of the three bottles I've had - age really does make a difference. Salt and citrus fruits on the nose, especially lemon, obviously, but also grapefruit. Much more open and complex in the mouth, starting with a crisp, saline attack, then oozing into lemon confit, before grapefruit and a hint of lime, with a wave of honey just before the crisp finish.
For me, just as good as the more celebrated crus produced by La Pépière, which is not a criticism of the latter - but one seldom reads about the Lieubeau wines.
The only warning for those who do not know Muscadet crus is that for me, at least, they are not really typical Muscadets in that they do not have the chiselled, saline mouthfeel one is used to and expects. These are much more "intellectual" wines, better as apéritifs than with oysters, for example, with quite subtle flavours that I find very attractive indeed.

  • Idem aux autres bouteilles. nez expressif de citron confit et de relents salins. Attaque généreuse de fruits confits. Riche, soyeux, presque gras, avec des notes boisées, herbacées avec une pointe d’amertume en finale.

  • This isn't a mineral driven beauty with the beautiful architecture I have come to love (and expect) from all good Muscadet.

This is just like a fruit-packed juice, the kind that just isn't very good.

Two btls to go, will let them sit for a few years, hoping that they will grow into something beautiful as they turn yellow.

  • By the glass. It seems to be a sign of Clisson all that exotic fruit that so much fogs on the nose, in my illiterate opinion, so much wines of the Loire. Imbalance in the mouth between tension, high acidity and weak structure. It is not worth waiting any longer to uncork. It does not make sense.

  • Ocean, savory not sweet, full-bodied like a Chardonnay, and paired beautifully with the scallops
