Jura Tasting: Coconut, smoke, some leather and cherry aromas. Nice sweet black fruit on the pate, with soft tannins backing though they are very well integrated. In a really nice spot - good balance and length and really quite appealing to drink.

This bottle is showing much more exciting than the last and in a side by side comparison with the 98 has much more interest. Hunter leather, berry, some caramel, hint of funk and earth, and a good finish. This is in just the right place where I like to see Hunter Shiraz.

Savoury and light, the fruit is starting to fade a little leaving some dried red fruit, hunter leather and tea. A lovely wine, I'm not sure that this bottle is representative but it is starting to get on in age a little compared to the fresher juicier 1998s. Drink now.

(Wagyu with the Thams) Light ruby in the glass, with chockfuls of leather, dark berriers, peppers, plums, with nuances of cedar wood, tobacco and dusty smoke. Dry and clean in the glass, with very fine tea-leaf tannins, the taste is medium bodied, and continues with animal smells, dry dark berries, violets, even a hint of fresh figs, with more tea characters and a cheery disposition. An over-arching sinewy elegance shows in maturity - nothing of the usual brash, slap-in-the-face of young hunter shiraz. A gentle savouriness and mushroom earthiness later develops, which complements rather nicely the truffle mash and lightly-seared wagyu with ponzu dressing.

Consistent with the last bottle, meaning the first I tried was simply a case of a bad bottle.
