  • Dark. Expressive nose of some distinction - mixed fruits with earth overtones - not too ripe. Good attack on the front palate - flavorful, juicy and bright. A little raw even. Grippy tannin. Good length for what it is. Not the best time to be drinking this - it needs time to calm down. But it is full of life. A wine of consummate authenticity. I liked it better than the bottle drunk in November. Hold five years. Next day - sweeter / less precise / more in line with the prior note.

In looking over my notes on this wine - which extend over the best part of a case - I see my reaction to it has been inconsistent as to my response to its ripeness in particular - which sometimes I have found a little overwhelming and at other times not remarked upon. The fault / inconsistency is mine. You must be your own judge.

  • Full. The warmth of the year shows. So rich as to resemble cassis, which in my personal aromatic register can border on funky. Not as enjoyable as I had hoped. There is no doubting its authenticity - there is absolutely no "polish" here - it just lacks a little elegance and grace. Perhaps an awkward stage. A bottle drunk in March 2021 was more interesting.

  • Dark ruby-purple core. Some volatility on the nose, along with plum, cassis and Asian spice. Medium-bodied, with plentiful, mostly soft tannins, good acidity, and a flavor profile that mirrors the nose well, driven by plum and oak spice. The finish is intensely tannic (as would be expected), with notes of espresso bean and roasted almonds. Very elegant. This should age well for the next 10+ years. Not bad for a Bordeaux under $20!
