Wonderful Gemstone tasting last night, and this was my WOTN. Perfect example of TRB’s style with an absolutely intoxicating nose of sweet red and black fruit. Some sandalwood too. Velvet like texture on the palate showing soft, bruised, ripe blackberry, bing cherry and vanilla tobacco. Fig and nutmeg. Finish goes on and on. Fantastic! 95+ with potential for 97+ in a few years.

Out of all of the Gemstone cabernets consumed tonight, this one was my favorite. This one had depth and power and complexity. Lots of dark black youthful fruit, but a roasted nut character somewhere in the middle and an herbal characteristic lingering in the finish. Dark roasted and toasted tannins. This wine still has a lot of unresolved tannins, and I think the bottle was only open about an hour before it was poured. The difference between this one and the Ruby Cabernet which fetches a much higher price is really not much IMO. Perhaps if both were open for a few hours you might be able to tell more of a difference. If you were going to buy any of Gemstone's 2015 Cabernets, this is the one. And I would definitely look for this one to age for 20 years or so.

Wonderful wine. Still young but very approachable sweet red fruit velvety texture.
