We were interested to open this wine to see how it was aging in the bottle. The wine is tasting wonderfully. I would feel comfortable holding for another couple of years, but drinking fantastic now. Nice complexity and a fun nose. The co-fermenting with viognier and roussanne creates a very enjoyable syrah.

Walla Walla Syrah Festival Grand Tasting (Valdemar Cellars Walla Walla): Balboa was a head turner for me at the Grand Syrah Tasting. The 2018 Reserve Syrah was wine of the night and this was also very good. Dark currants, black pepper, bramble, spice and earth. Medium plus finish and concentrated wine. This has plenty of life left. Drink now to 2027.

This is simply lovely - bright and well balanced. Full of cherry and blackberry in the beginning that gives way to a long peppery finish.I’ve got another bottle that will sit for another year and will see how it evolves. This one has several years of muscle left in it! Well done to Tom and the Balboa crew!
