  • 13% alcohol.

Quite pale green-toned color. At first rather restrained nose with very little beyond aromas of ripe quince and sweet-toned creamy oak. As the wine opens up in the glass, the nose picks up complexity with aromas of toasty oak spice, creamy richness, some caramel tones, a little bit of rich yet slightly green-toned plantain character, a hint of smoke and a touch of ripe red apple. The wine is broad, ripe and sweet-toned on the palate with moderately full body and surprisingly racy acid structure. There are complex flavors of creamy oak, ripe red apples, some vanilla tones, a little bit of steely minerality, light notes of quince and plantain, a hint of sweet caramel oak and a touch of nectarine. The wine is quite broad and textural, yet not particularly weighty or bulky - partly thanks to the bracing acidity that lends wonderful crisp character and sense of structure to the wine. The finish is very long, refreshing and racy yet still surprisingly rich with quite intense flavors of sweet, toasty oak, creaminess, ripe red apples, some quince, a little bit of buttery character and tropical hints of papaya and pineapple.

A stylish, crisp and impressively complex Chardonnay with a lot of intensity and depth. At the moment the oak character feels still a bit too dominant but I expect it to integrate with the fruit if given enough time. Quite terrific now and most likely will turn spectacular with age. Most likely needs at least another 10 years before reaching its peak. Recommended.

  • Liked this wine. Good citrus balance, subtle oak, medium length. Balance much more favourable after a bit of temperature, improving the closer the wine got to room temperature. Solid (and typical) WA chardonnay.
