First of 2 ($49.99@) from online wine clearinghouse a couple of years ago. On the nose and palate, all dark notes of earth, black currants and plums with lesser notes of black cherries and dark berries, asphalt, tobacco, mocha and a bit of leather and judicious amounts of oak and vanilla. Dark purple, medium+ bodied, thick legs. Medium+ tannins, medium acidity, no heat. Good+ intensity, VG persistence and complexity. This came out of the bottle surprisingly thin and a bit tannnic (not sure it was all that tannic in an absolute sense, but the leanness of the fruit accentuated that feature); it wasn’t obvious it would improve with air. After about 90 minutes-2 hours, this had filled out a bit, with the more vibrant dark fruit balancing the tannins, and this wine worked well as a sipper on its own, and was a good complement to roast chicken. After a night off, on night #3, this took another half step to the good, deepening and lengthening, so that the last glass was best, even if the difference was far more subtle than, say (unfairly), the ‘05 Colgin IX. I went back and forth on this, between thinking it was a pleasant but pretty nondescript Cab, that was a bit undernourished and under energetic, toward thinking it was more sophisticated than I initially gave it credit for, with its Coombsville provenance, which I cotton to, showing some of the appealing graininess I find in sites I like such as LPV. I didn’t know this wine when it was offered; it had decent pro and CT reviews, and an earlier vintage was favorably noted by CT friend mjp, he who often drinks at a different level of the ether than I, so I take notice when he positively reports on a $50-ish wine. At what I paid, this is a very solid Napa CS, even if I find CSs and other BDX blends I like more in their motherland and the Land of the Boot at this price point. Don’t go crazy and try to corner the market on this or anything, but if you see it at around what I paid and the description above appeals, you could do a lot worse. I have. Drink now with air, but can hold for 3-5+ years; CT window way too short. 91-92++

A nose of dark fruits and spices, dark garnet in color. A medium to full bodied red, with cassis, plum, tar and spice on long finish, was very good, short decant. www.winelx.com

Had decanted over dinner at Peppervine. Good structure and body. Could have used a longer decant, when swirling in glass with more air was very good
