One of my top 4 chardonnays year after year. Neck to neck with Leeuwin, Kistler & Ferren, while topping Hyde de Villaine, Aubert, Peter Michael & sacrilegiously, even Marcassin.
Nose: vanilla and citrus Taste: velvety and smooth. Light citrus and oak, just a very great Chardonnay. I LOVE this wine. It has handled the 7 years very well.

Popped and poured. This is a light gold wine. On the nose, I get fresh flowers, honeycomb, and baked apple. In the mouth, this is a large and open wine, one showing a frank touch of sweetness and buttery flavor. The finish continues the theme with candycorn and mango flavors lingering for 25-30 seconds. Overall, this is a big-boned and inviting wine, one that speaks clearly of California and probably could come from nowhere else. This is overpriced at $90 per bottle. 90 points.

Popped and poured. This is a solid yellow wine that is generally transitioning to gold. On the nose, I get honey, lanolin, and some oak influence. In the mouth, this delivers a package of very ripe peach, butter, and glycerin. The mouth-coating sensation folds into a rich finish marked by assorted yellow fruits and candy corn. Overall, this is a very large-scaled effort. It probably is too much and perhaps is an example of a California wine that needs to ratchet down a notch or so, but it is of sufficient quality that the flamboyance isn’t offputting. Serve with something very rich or drink on its own. 90 points.
