  • Decanted 1/2 hour. Nose and palate of minimal black fruit and berries, a little dust and spice with mild tannins and medium finish. This is probably past its prime, considering the diminishing fruit and little acidity.

  • NICE age on this Napa cab that was pulled tonight. Good "Bordeaux Blend" (wag of the finger with the 1 percent Syrah) but wine was elegant and a great performer. It followed the 08 Faust so it had some big shoes to fill. Cork pulled with a deep, almost black stain with about 3mm of cork bleed. No sediment on the cork. The nose from the bottle was true to form Bordeaux - that 22 percent Merlot was kicking at the front. Ripe dark blackberry, ripe cherry, and dark currant abounded. No spice. Wine did not need to be decanted given the age and was poured a very deep red, almost purple with inky characteristic. Nose in the glass was a bit different, where more of a ripe jam. On the palate was soft velvet from start to finish with very delicate tannin on the finish. ALL dark cherry, mild pepper spice, and even some leather and cocoa. Sediment left in the neck of the bottle and on the bottom of the glass on final pour. This one is ready now and will be done in 1-2 years.

  • Excellent – there’s just a lot going on here. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 12% Petite Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Syrah. An intriguing subtle musty – but certainly not a corked – smell gives this wine character from the start. Jammey palate starts with upfront sweetish strawberry and then elegantly fades into dark cherry and herbal flavors. Incredibly long finish that just lasts and lasts on the palate. Well worth the price, which is relatively modest as far as Napa Bordeaux blends are concerned. A different kind of Napa blend, but a very beautiful wine nonetheless. Subtle and elegant.
