The one with Luca Roagna (Teochew Paradise): Old school Nebbiolo expression that puts a smile on your face. While youthful, this was showing well with dark red cherries, roses, sage and smoke on the opening silky red fruit, sage and almond skin on the palate. There is high fruit concentration here alongside a silky tannin structure with just so much sensuality and balance here. Give it time and you will surely be rewarded!

Pronounced nose intensity with notes of mushroom, truffle, red fruits, toast, spices. Medium+ acidity and high tannin. Tannin is fine and not harsh. Still youthful. Very aromatic.

Piedmont theme: Bit natty, Grenache-like with candied red fruit at the start. Thankfully it put on weight with air, while retaining the silky and ethereal texture. Brilliant purity of fruit and a saline finish. My first instinct was ‘11/12 Roagna but misunderstood that the person wasn’t going to bring a Roagna. Similar to my previous experiences, the VVs are always a step up and very Burgundian-like. My WOTN.

Really coiled up and tight on the fresh pour, and a bit of a funk of the nose which I also pick up in their other cuvées of this vintage. Dark cherry, wild roses, sensual and gripping but not heavy, it’s got the weight but not all brawn. Obviously a serious step up from the rest from the range. Nice kick of alcohol at the back. Decadent to say the least, and has the legs to go the distance. I think I’d like this more with some age.

Stunning wine. Light pale garnet. So open and aromatic on the nose. Light and crystalline on the palate, with silky tannins. Layers upon layers of red and dark fruit, black tea, roses, spices, a hint of tar. One of my best recent wines
