  • My last bottle of this vintage and I have not much to add to my previous notes. A gorgeous wine for lovers of ripe Grenache. Not cheap (29€ at the domain) but it has the class of a very good Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This wine can still be kept for several years without deterioration.

  • Ripe Grenache (90% with 10%Syrah) at its best: sunshine in a glass. This is a grape with a high sugar concentration, usually resulting in an relatively high alcohol content (here 15%) which might be a problem for some tasters. Personally I am not too afraid of some alcohol as long as it is well integrated into the structure of the wine which (at least for me) is the case here. For a Grenache-based wine a deep color with a not unusual tawny hue. On the nose and palate seductive ripe red fruits, quite a lot of ripe tannins and a long voluptuous finale. Don’t miss these wines if you are touring in the region.

  • One of the best estates of this lesser known appellation in the Vaucluse. 90% old-vine (50-100 years) Grenache and 10% Syrah from a special plot with a soil of blue clay. A very intense wine with on the nose cedar, licorice, raisins and garrigue. Forcefull on the palate with a lot of ripe fruit and tannines and more than decent length. In fact I preferred this wine over a Pegau da Capo which I drank yesterday (might have been a bottle problem there?). There is also a less expensive Cuvée Confiance, which to my taste might even be more complex due to the presence of some Mourvédre in the blend.

  • I visited this domaine for the first time in 1997 and the wines (vintage 1995) made me realise how delicious the wines of the southern Rhône can be: sunshine in a glass. Since then i went there every single year to taste the young wines, which maybe are even getting better after young and shy Frederic Romero took over from his flamboyant father Andre. This 2015 has an opaque colour, and smells of black fruits and liquorice. Mouthfilling with lots of ripe tannines, and a long aftertaste wih just enough freshness. Absolutely necessary to serve this wine fresh (14°C) to counterbalance the alcohol.
