Needs time, on day 3 it emerges to being a well rounded chinon, pyrazines, sour cherries, a bit of funk, nice acidity. Past vintages have given off more spice box (i.e. right bank Bordeaux dead ringer) but I'll take this higher toned style too

Cellartracker in the flesh with Mats, Tomas and Atsushi (Fujiyama Bar and Diner): Ripe black cherry, earthy, meaty, slightly bretty notes. In the mouth the fruit proves, initially, slightly sour though this softens with time in the glass, grainy drying tannins and those slightly meaty notes are here as well as a touch of pepper. Simple but nice and really good with the pork.

The nose is fine, very pure and mouth-watering blackcurrant and violet aromas. The first sip was very tight, so I decanted it for five hours. By then it had improved, was still quite inaccessible: blackcurrants and dark raspberry, with the usual silky Joguet sheen, but still very tannic, giving the finish an unpleasant bitterness. Moreover, the tannic straitjacket makes the fruit taste slightly unripe and thin. Judgement reserved for now.

Initial thoughts were very closed off, almost rated this 88, but an additional 4 points emerged after 2 hours decant, it opened up beautifully, with a decent finish and balance between fruit and green notes. The wine has a relatively stiff backbone, and is more concentrated than many other Loire Cab Franc I've had.

Purple-pink rim, transparent ruby red center. Red fruits, blue cheese, red cherry, oak and spices. Long peppery finish.
